The Big Day Off Fishing Trip!!! 7-14-22
It was a hot and hazy afternoon when the Rat Pack and the Russo Gutter gang once again joined forces with the crew of the Golden Eagle out of the Belmar Marina in Downtown Belmar. Our purpose was clear – to have a good time with all the Rat Listeners aboard for our Big Day Off Fishing Trip..Oh and to CATCH FISH! After the party of upwards of 50 were all boarded, we were on our way up Atlantic shoreline towards the Highlands for an early evening of Fluke and Sea Bass fishing. the ride is always great. so relaxing and beautiful. Finally after about 40 minutes, Captain Lenny used his fish finder to spot some schools of Sea Bass about 60 feet down. The engines stopped, the horn blew and down the lines went! BOOM! First fish boated in a matter of seconds! Then another and another. It was on! So it went for a while, then we moved to another spot. Not as good, so we hauled back closer to our original fishin hole. That’s where the pool winner was won! Rat Rocker Chris Pomp pulled in a HUGE freakin Sea Bass, that upon weigh in, eventually won Chris the pool money we all chipped in on at the start of the trip. It was awesome! That however wasn’t the only highlight of the evening. Our good buddy Steve, from Russo Gutters, who every year sponsor our Big Day Off Trips, landed two bass at once! Using a High/Low set up, he got them to bite and get hooked together! Crazy! Plus, there were some Flukes caught along with the usual garbage fish, as they are known, Skates, and Sea Robbins. All in all it was a tremendous day of fishing, even though Jimmy “No Fish” Steal got skunked again. Well, you know what they say, A bad day of fishing is better than a good day being Gotts.
