Full disclosure. I am a fair/carnival junky. Ever since I was a little kid I have always taken a shine to the sights the sounds and the smells of them! So, I am so happy that the Ocean County Fair is returning to Robert J. Miller Airpark on Route 530 in Berkely Township, this week!
The fair runs Wednesday, July 13th through Sunday the 17th, 5 pm-11 pm Wednesday and Thursday, 11-11 Friday and Saturday, and 11-5 on Sunday. If you've never been to the Ocean County Fair, well let's just say, it's not just your average Carnival! Sure they have the usual rides, like Ferris Wheels, Merry Go Rounds, the Tilt a Whirl (my all-time favorite), and tons more. It's also a County-based agricultural and entertainment expo!
The local 4-H will be there all week long, where you can check out animals raised by local Ocean County kids, sample some local honey, and really get a feel for what the 4-H does in our community. As far as entertainment, well from my experience in past years, the Ocean County Fair doesn't disappoint! From live music daily to wood carving demos, even the famous pig races! Yes, I said PIG RACES! It's a squeal!
On Sunday there is a very special treat as the one and only Cowboy Larry - who's a real cowboy, brings his show to the fair! Bullwhips, roping, and shooting trick shots are all sure to be safe and fun for the whole family! When it comes to food the fair is a gastronomical extravaganza! Hot Dogs, Burgers, Cheesesteaks as big as your arm, and ohhhh man, I can smell them now on the grill...Sausage and Peppers! Plus delicious BBQ, corn on the cob, fried dough, ice cream, and other delish desserts! Check out the vendor area to get some one of a kind items like Cowboy hats, homemade jewelry, sauces, spices, and more!
The more I write the more I can't wait to go to the Ocean County Fair! Here's the best part! In this inflated economy, the Ocean County Fair is still the best family value around! Daily admission is just 9 dollars! Kids under 10 are FREE! Oh and parking? that's free too! Plus, there are unlimited ride wristbands available for purchase at the fair.
