Rocking The Vogel at the Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank on May 6!!!
It was the night before Halloween: October 30, 2021. The Vogel Theater in Red Bank was filled with a diversely-dressed crowd of enthusiastic attendees. No, they weren’t wearing Halloween costumes. Looking around you could see leather jackets, evening gowns, sleeveless Metal T-shirts, and, of course, zoot suits. It was a potent, motley combination of music lovers, reflective of the act they came to see.
Overkill founding member DD Verni is known for his killer Bass skills and his contributions to the creation of the beloved genre of Thrash Metal. However, he’s not just a Metalhead. He is a lover of great music with a poweful voice and serious Swing skills. The free time granted to him by the covid-19 lockdown allowed him to finally make a move on a side project that was years in the making. DD Verni and the Cadillac Band has arrived. A thirteen-piece big band, featuring a horn section and back-up singers, DD Verni and The Cadillac Band has been described as “Brian Setzer sped up on jet fuel.” The group includes locals Kingston & Greystarr and members of Waiting On Mongo. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Overkill are also represented in the line up.
DD Verni and the Cadillac Band return to the Vogel on Friday May 6! Don Jamieson will kick off the evening with a comedy set! It’s the perfect kick-off to the Mother’s Day Weekend and excellent date night opportunity. Getting to Red Bank early is highly recommended as there is a lot to do around The Basie Center for the Arts. Ahead of the show you can grab dinner and drinks, take a walk by the river, or hit up a legendary local record store, arcade or comic shop.
Tickets are available now at thebasie.org.
The Basie Center has ammended its covid-19 protocols. The venue no longer requires proof of vaccination for entry. Masks are optional.
