Holy Cow!   We’ve got some great news for ya, Yankee fans!   The great Paul O’Neill will officially get his number 21 retired by the Yanks this year!

The ceremony will take place on August 21st…and it should be a very special day.   Expect guys like Bernie Williams, David Cone, Tino Martinez and other Yankee greats from the ’90’s to be there.

Paul O’Neill had a tremendous Yankee career.   In nine seasons with the Bronx Bombers, O’Neill won four championships, was a four-time All Star, and won the batting title in 1994 (he also won a championship and made an All Star team with the Reds…the team he was with before the Yanks).

O’Neill also had quite the reputation of being…shall we say…ultra-competitive.   It was not uncommon for Paul to destroy a water cooler with his bat like he was DeNiro in The Untouchables.   And yet…he’s had an excellent post-playing career as a happy and fun Yankees broadcaster.

And, of course, there was Number 21’s fantastic appearance on Seinfeld…in which Kramer promised a little kid in a hospital that O’Neill would hit two home runs for him.  And classic comedy ensued.

Congrats to Paul O’Neill!   It’s a much-deserved honor!   And check out the Seinfeld clip below!
