Sammy Hagar Recalls His ‘Brave’ Act of Trading Guitar Licks with Eddie Van Halen
Sammy Hagar took to social media to share a vintage photo of himself onstage with Eddie Van Halen and cheekily recalled how “brave” he was to trade guitar licks with him.
Hagar shared the photo via Van Hagar/Other Half, the Instagram, the Facebook and Instagram accounts he shares with bassist Michael Anthony highlighting the “Van Hagar” years of Van Halen. Hagar wrote, “Wow look at those two young men. It’s hard to believe so much time has gone by, that was 1986, 35 years ago, holy s—.”
He added, “Even crazier that I used to trade off guitar licks back-and-forth with Eddie Van Halen on stage every night. ha Hah Hah Hah Hah Hah. I was a brave, young, enthusiastic guitarist. But boy did we have fun and I sure learned a lot from Eddie. The most flattering thing that ever happened is he actually stole a guitar run from me that I had stole from Ronnie Montrose. This shot it says a lot.”
Anthony added, “Musically speaking, Sammy added a whole new element to Van Halen that elevated the band to a new level!! It was great on stage watching these two trading off guitar licks, having so much fun… Good times!!!”
