So I was cruising social media last night and saw that my friend Chris Shuster posted an acoustic performance from Long Beach California’s Rival Sons.  It’s singer Jay Buchanan and guitarist Scott Holiday Recorded Live at Paste Studios in New York City back in January 2019.

Jay Buchanan has one of those rare otherworldly voices that goes places that we’ve never been to.  He feels every note and every lyric and the audience feels it along with him. Scott Holiday is a masterful guitarist who also has a knack for making you feel things deep down.  I’ve seen Rival Sons a couple of times.  The first was in 2016 when they opened for Black Sabbath  at the PNC Bank Arts Center and the second was on the Stone Pony Summer Stage when they toured with Stone Temple Pilots in September of 2019.

The video performance you are about to watch may blow your mind for a few reasons. The song these guys chose to cover is something none of would suspect would wind up in their repertoire .Jay’s voice is unlike anything you’ve ever heard before, and Scott’s guitar work is fantastic.

Please click below and listen to their version of the Olivia Newton John song from the film Grease, “Hopelessly Devoted To You”. Hang on to your hat.
