Did The Muppet Show Predict Star Wars’ Sale To Disney?
So, I was watching The Muppet Show on Disney Plus. If you didn’t know, the Disney streaming service has now made all episodes of the classic Jim Henson variety show available on their network.
And naturally, being a massive Star Wars fan, I instantly pulled up the episode featuring Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and the crew from Star Wars (February, 1980).
It’s a great episode…with funny moments from Mark, C-3PO, R2-D2, and Chewbacca. But what struck me the most occurred at the end of the show…when everyone gathered ’round to sing “When You Wish Upon A Star”.
The song, originally written for Disney’s 1940 film Pinocchio, has now become a sort of Disney anthem…identified with the magic of the company. And there they are…singing it proudly…while a very Disney-esque castle pops up (around 2:10 into the video)!
Of course, George Lucas did not sell Star Wars to Disney until 2012…32 years after this Nostradamus-esque Muppet Show episode! See the proof below! Wow!
