5.) “Drunken Lullabies” by Flogging Molly

Formed in Dublin in 1997, Flogging Molly has been a staple of the Irish-Punk scene for years and have kicked a lot o’ass!

4.) “Whiskey In The Jar” by Thin Lizzy

Another Dublin band (created in 1969), Phil Lynot soulfully sings this traditional Irish classic and shows why he was such an inspiration to the likes of James Hetfield, Slash, Axl Rose, and others.

3.) “If I Should Fall From Grace With God” by The Pogues

Quite simply…the Pogues practically INVENTED the genre of Celtic Punk Rock.   And lead singer/writer Shane MacGowan is a God.   Fin.

2.) “Van Diemen’s Land” by U2

Hey…if it’s a rock list revolving around St. Patrick’s Day, iconic Irish rockers U2 HAVE to be on the list.   The trick is…what song best represents their Celtic roots?   My submission?   This haunting and amazing song (which features vocals from The Edge rather than Bono).

1.) “Buried Alive” by the Dropkick Murphys

Ah-HA!   Admit it!   You saw Dropkick Murphys and you thought I was gonna go with “Shipping Up To Boston”.   Hey…I LOVE that song.   It rules.   But THIS track is the Dropkicks at their St. Patrick’s best.   Bag pipes.   Thrashing guitars.   Heart.   This song has it all…which is why it is number one on the list.
