East Side Dave’s Top 5 Characters From Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!
Hola, friends! It’s your pop culture genius, “East Side” Dave, here! And I need to give a birthday shout-out to Mike Tyson!
The former Heavyweight Champion of the World turns 54 today (b. June 30, 1966).
Now, I understand that “Iron” Mike is one of the best boxers of all time. But his greatest achievement, in my controversial opinion, was to lend his name to Punch-Out…the most awesome boxing video game ever!
So, as a result, I’m making a list. Behold! It’s East Side Dave’s Top 5 Characters From Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out! Ring the bell!
5.) Glass Joe
In real-life boxing, this gentleman would be called a “tomato can” (an insulting term for a fighter who stinks). Joe had very little athleticism and and even less toughness; and was an absolute pleasure to CRUSH in match one.
4.) Soda Popinski
This intimidating boxer from the former Soviet Union was packed with power. Could beer muscles have been at work? Fun Fact: Soda was originally named “Vodka Drunkenski”…..and, no, I’m not making that up.
3.) Great Tiger
This magical fighter from India was lightning fast and apparently could teleport to different areas of the ring. This man would give even the most skilled boxer problems!
2.) King Hippo
Was he a human or animal or something more sinister? This mysterious beast lives in my brain to this day…and I ain’t complaining.
1.) Mike Tyson
No one was tougher to beat than “Iron” Mike himself. An absolute legend.
