Distillery Recalls Bottles of Gin That Were Filled with Hand Sanitizer
An Australia-based distillery had to recall a number of bottles of gin due to the bottles being filled with hand sanitizer.
Apollo Bay Distillery shared the post below to their Facebook page along with the caption, “The product recall below relates to nine (9) bottles of SS Casino Gin purchased between Friday 5 June to Sunday 7 June. The bottles were incorrectly labeled and had no seal. We understand they are not toxic. Should you have purchased a bottle of SS Casino Gin between Friday 5 June to Sunday 7 June please return it to where you purchased it from for a full refund or replacement.”
In the accompanying image, Apollo Bay Distillery lists the bottles contain 1.45% glycerol and 0.125% hydrogen peroxide, which are necessary ingredients to make hand sanitizer.
An Apollo Bay Distillery spokesperson to Australia’s ABC News that “…one woman had reported feeling nauseous after consuming the hand sanitizer, but had since recovered.”
Also recovered are all nine bottles from the recall. Apollo Bay Distillery shared an update in the comment section of their original post saying, “We can now confirm we have recovered all incorrectly labeled bottles from the product safety recall we issued on Monday 8 June. We are very sorry this occurred. Rest assured we will be following up our procedures to ensure this does not occur again. We’d like to thank those who were affected for being so understanding. We are in the process of fully refunding and providing a replacement product to those impacted. Thank you to everyone who shared the recall, and the media for publicizing it, as this enabled us to recover the products quickly.”
