So, that got us thinking…what are some of the best baseball flicks ever? Well…let’s rank and debate ’em!
It’s East Side Dave’s Top 5 Baseball Movies Of All Time! Let the arguments and name-calling commence…play ball!
5.) Field Of Dreams
Field Of Dreams is a magical fairy tale that showcases the beauty of baseball and the effect the sport can have on the bond between fathers and sons. If you don’t get a little misty-eyed at the scene below…you don’t have a soul.
4.) A League Of Their Own
Tom Hanks intentionally put on weight to portray Jimmy Dugan…a foul-mouthed and boozed-up former Major Leaguer who now manages a women’s baseball team. With fantastic performances by Geena Davis and Lori Petty, this movie is a total home run.
3.) Moneyball
Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, Robin Wright, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and a young Chris Pratt star in this enthralling film about Oakland A’s General Manager Billy Beane and how his embrace of baseball analytics changed the sport forever.
2.) Bull Durham
Kevin Costner, Susan Surandon, and Tim Robbins deliver some of the best performances of their respective careers in this classic about a Minor League team in North Carolina. Interesting factoid: the picture’s writer-director, Ron Shelton, actually played Minor League ball…giving the movie extra authenticity.
1.) The Natural
Barry Levinson directs this poetic masterpiece which is a love letter to the game of baseball itself. Featuring Robert Redford in what may be the performance of his life…this simply is the greatest baseball movie ever.
