The Australian government has introduced further restrictions on movement and gatherings in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Public gatherings are now limited to two people, while Australians are being urged to stay home unless absolutely necessary. New South Wales and Victoria have also enacted additional lockdown measures to allow police the power to fine people who breach the two-person outdoor gathering limit or leave their homes without a reasonable excuse. Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory have all closed their borders to non-essential travellers and international arrivals into Australia are being sent to mandatory quarantine in hotels for 14 days. Only dirtbags would find a way to profit from a pandemic! Thieves are sending text messages and launching robocalls in order to steal from you. State and federal officials around the country want you to beware of any text messages that may tell you that you’ve been exposed to someone with Covid-19. DO NOT respond to any Covid-19 related texts. These fraudsters use their victims’ fear to their advantage, swindling them out of cash or tricking them into providing personal information.
Other scams include robocalls and emails offering protective equipment, phony treatments, and financial relief. Don’t give anyone your personal info including your social security number, address, bank info…etc. The FTC has collected more than 20,000 Covid-19 related complaints and those scams have collectively cost Americans around $13.4 million.
