Today’s date is March 16th…or 3:16.   In other words…it’s “Stone Cold” Steve Austin Day!   Hell yeah!

And we wish the “Texas Rattlesnake” was a scientist so that he could give a stunner to the Coronavirus!   Nonetheless, let’s celebrate with some Steve Austin clips and whatnot!

For starters…….what is Austin 3:16?   Besides being the most iconic catch-phrase (and subsequent T-shirt) in WWE history, Austin 3:16 origins go back to a promo that Austin cut on Jake “The Snake” Roberts in 1996.   This fantastic promo is considered a turning point in Austin’s career as it instantly catapulted him towards being the most popular performer in the WWE in the ’90’s.

Let’s fast-forward to 1997, where “Stone Cold” was itching to get back in the ring, but the WWE was keeping him on the sidelines due to a serious neck injury.   This did not bode well for WWE owner and CEO Vince McMahon in a classic episode of Monday Night Raw in Madison Square Garden.

We move to 1998…Wrestlemania 14…and after eight long years in professional wrestling, Austin would finally capture his first World Championship by defeating Shawn Michaels for the title with special guest referee Mike Tyson watching on.

In what would become one of the greatest rivalries in the history of wrestling, “Stone Cold” would beat his in-ring nemesis The Rock in WrestleMania 15 in 1999, in what would be the first of a trilogy of classic WrestleMania matches between the two.
