Governor Murphy announced today (March 16) that he is ordering all schools, casinos, restaurants, racetracks, theaters, gyms, among many other establishments to close until further notice.
All gatherings of over 50 individuals are cancelled effective as of 8:00 p.m. tonight for New Jersey residents. All other non-essential retail, recreational, and entertainment businesses must close after that time.
However, during daytime hours, these businesses may remain open if they limit their occupancy and adhere to the social distancing guidelines. With that being said, all non-essential travel in New Jersey is strongly discouraged and will remain in effect for the foreseeable future.
“We do not take any of the steps we’ve announced today lightly,” Governor Murphy stated. “We know that these will impact residents and families, communities, and businesses. But our paramount concern is to #FlattenTheCurve– these steps will ensure we do not overload our health care system.”
