Dave Mustaine Offers Update on Status of New Megadeth Album
Megadeth recently released the new 35th anniversary retrospective Warheads on Foreheads, but what’s going on the new music front?
The last LP from Megadeth was 2016’s Dystopia, which netted the band its very first Grammy award for “Best Metal Performance.” Dave Mustaine said he is currently working on new material and offered this update when he appeared on Talkin’ Rock with Meltdown:
“To be honest, in the back of my mind I keep saying, ‘As long as it’s as good as ‘Dystopia,’ we’re gonna be safe.’ That’s the bar. The problem is that’s a pretty high bar…I’ve got eight songs that I have written, and the band guys are supposed to be writing stuff, too. So, we’ll just see how much music everybody contributes. I’m hoping to get a lot of music from different players because they all have something great to offer. That’s usually when a record, when all’s said and done, when we’ve turned the songs into management and all of us have taken a look at the tracks, and we usually all decide what songs are the best songs to be on there.”
Mustaine is currently touring as part of the Experience Hendrix Tour, which wraps April 6 in Wallingford, Conn. He will join back up with Megadeth on the road starting May 29 when the band provides support on Ozzy Osbourne’s “No More Tours 2” farewell tour.
