RAT Rock News

If you thought you were the most excited person on the planet about Rob Zombie’s new album, you’re actually not, because that honor belongs to his guitarist John 5.

John 5 recently spoke with WRIF’s Meltdown, and the way he talked about the record would make any skeptic very intrigued:

“A lot of bands are like, ‘This is our best record!’  But this time, I’m going to say it, because I never say it.  This is, by far, not only the best Rob Zombie record but the best White Zombie record, anything.  We hit it out of the park.  This is definitely Rob’s ‘Sgt. Pepper.’  This is his…this is the one, and he agrees with me.  He’s like, ‘Yeah…this is the best record I’ve ever made.’ We are so excited about this.  We’re going to be putting drums on it, but my parts are done.  Bass is done.  Vocals are done.  I don’t know when it’s going to come out, but everything…we’re going to be very careful with it, because we want to make sure we have enough time for promotion and enough time to make videos and things like that, because this is a very special record.  Not that the other ones weren’t, but this is by far the best one that he’s ever done, by far…This was the Zombie record I was waiting for, because before I got in the band, I was a huge fan.”

So, what happened?  What helped make this album so special in the eyes of its creators?  It turns out they changed their creative process altogether:

“What we did this time is he would come up with these hooks and lyrics and things like that to beats or to very, very simple guitar riffs.  There was nothing in his way to write a great melody or a great lyric.  So, then what I did is, he would say, ‘Come on in the studio, and write around me.’ And I’m telling you, man, it worked incredible…It’s hard to describe.  It’s like trying to describe the color blue.”

So far, there’s no release date in sight, but at least John 5’s “describe the color blue” challenge will give us something to do while we wait for more news.
