The future will not include the NHRA…
Sad news to pass along to fans of the drag strip at Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey.
In an announcement made today, track ownership said that the will no longer host drag racing at the fabled race track.
Before we over-react: The rumor of Raceway Park closing is false. They’re staying open and will host many of their popular events but will no longer host the NHRA or other drag racing. Still a go are the swap meets, car shows, mud challenges and fitness races, kart racing, drifting, and motocross.
EDIT (1/17/18 at 10:45am): Just in: We’ve just heard that they are still planning to do Monster Truck events and the annual “Night of Thrills”… So that’s good news!
Still, though… We’re pretty sad over the announcement that drag racing is leaving RP. Over the last 21 years, WRAT been proud to be involved with the family fun that IS drag racing at Raceway Park. The sound and fury that is the starting line at a real life drag race is something we’ll never forget.
According to the announcement, the swap meets and other cool activities will continue and we look forward to going to them in the future.
The Napp family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the
employees that have served our drag racing customers so well over the previous years. It
is with a great sadness that the Napp family is discontinuing drag racing, however the
family looks forward to continuing to provide the best outdoor events in this new era of
Stay tuned… There’s likely more fun to be had!
