George Washington’s Egg Nog Recipe
NEW YORK- SEPTEMBER 5: Pedestrians walk around the George Washington statue in front of Federal Hall September 5, 2002 in New York City. Congress will return to its 18th century home at Federal Hall September 6, 2002 to commemorate the September 11 attacks. It will mark only the second time in 200 years that lawmakers have left Washington to convene a session of Congress, which will be a symbolic one with no bills to pass nor national issues decided. The father of our country was a ‘Nogger!
During this time of year it’s important to distinguish between that nasty, chalky, awful stuff you buy at the grocery store and a properly made, boozed up master of the mighty NOG!
George Washington loved egg nog too… here’s his personal recipe:
- 1 quart cream
- 1 quart milk
- 12 table spoons sugar
- 1 pint brandy
- 1/2 pint rye whiskey
- 1/2 pint Jamaica rum
- 1/4 pint sherry
Instructions: Mix mix liquor first, then separate yolks and whites of eggs, add sugar to beaten yolks, mix well. Add milk and cream, slowly beating. Beat whites of eggs until stiff and fold slowly into mixture. Let set in cool in the fridge for a few hours.
Taste frequently. Serve with a light dusting of freshly grated nutmeg
