Jersey Rock Band of the Week: Borialis
Rocking The Wonder Bar in Asbury Park This Friday 12/22!
Win A 4-Pack of Tickets This Week on Jersey Rock!
Borialis was born in Asbury Park in the late 90’s, a time when being a Jersey Rocker was a somewhat more daunting task than it is now. The booming Asbury Park music scene of today did not yet exist, while the Springsteen era seemed like a fond but distant memory. The legendary Stone Pony was preparing to re-brand itself as a dance club and the magazine Weird NJ had just published a quote from a City councilman who deemed Asbury Park “Sarejevo by the Sea.” It was a dark time indeed.
None of that stopped Borialis from making an impact on the national scene. The R&B group transitioned to a Rap/Rock sound and achieved stardom. They signed to Capitol Records and spent 3 years touring the nation with a number of high-profile acts, including Jay-Z. However after putting out their “What You Thought You Heard” album, the band split up.
Fast-forward to 2015. Borialis reunited and returned to their hometown of Asbury Park to find a booming music scene, far removed from the arid soil in which they originally took root. They began rocking local venues and are now in the process of producing new material. Borialis will rock the venue that bears Tilly’s likeness right before Christmas.
Don’t miss Borialis at The Wonder Bar on Friday December 22! Ernest and Little Bear and the Slims will open. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door and are available at ticketmaster.com
