For the past couple of years, the nominees for “Best Rock Video” at the MTV Video Music Awards have been questionable at best, with the winners sometimes being worse.
(Like when Lorde won the “Best Rock Video” Moonman in 2014 for “Royals,” beating out Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys, Imagine Dragons and Linkin Park.)
This year, however, it looks like the nominating committee re-worked their definition for “rock,” because their nominees are a vast improvement, and they are:
Coldplay – “A Head Full of Dreams”
Fall Out Boy – “Young And Menace”
Foo Fighters – “Run”
Green Day – “Bang Bang”
Twenty One Pilots – “Heavydirtysoul”
Of course, we do have one bone to pick with MTV: No Metallica?! They only made a music video for every single track from their latest album Hardwired…To Self-Destruct.
That gripe aside, let’s see if they’ll actually broadcast the presentation of “Best Rock Video” this year, unlike in 2015 when they awarded Fall Out Boy the “Best Rock Video” Moonman during the red carpet pre-show.
