Chris Evans Steps Down As 'Top Gear' Host After 1 Season

Well, they kept Top Gear going after Clarkson, May and Hammond all left, but it looks like Chris Evans will be leaving the garage.

The presenter of Top Gear will be leaving the show, sharing this note that he posted on Twitter.

Stepping down from Top Gear. Gave it my best shot but sometimes that's not enough. The team are beyond brilliant, I wish them all the best.

Many are tweeting to Evans, sharing that the show was wrecked no matter who took over, after the departure of zany leader Jeremy Clarkson after his drama filled exit, leaving Richard Hammond and James May to make an important decision. Rather than keep their post and try to go on without Jeremy, they left as well, leaving many positions open for other folks to fill some big shoes.

Except The Stig, of course. (Which we totally think is not always the same person, let's be honest.)

BBC tried to revive the hype by adding Friends star Matt LeBlanc to the lineup (probably to get America on their side), and according to the New York Times, the show still has had "sagging ratings," even after a promotional appearance with LeBlanc on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

Meanwhile, the dynamic threesome of Clarkson, Hammond, and May are working on their new series called The Grand Tour, and are still being them, so that's at least comforting:

It's going to be a brutal day on the Grand Tour. I'm driving an Aston Martin DB11 across Tuscany.

I should point out that Clarkson brings his own rosé on tour, and that Hammond talks of his 'favourite lavatory' at home.
