Keith Richards has been doing a number of interviews lately in the lead up to his new solo album Crosseyed Heart, and they’ve been pretty unfiltered, which is awesome…unless you’re Metallica or Black Sabbath.
In an interview with The New York Daily News, Keith proved he is not a fan of metal stating, “Millions are in love with Metallica and Black Sabbath. I just thought they were great jokes.”
Ouch! However, if you thought that was harsh, Richards said of rap/hip-hop music, “What rap did that was impressive was to show there are so many tone-deaf people out there. All they need is a drum beat and somebody yelling over it and they’re happy.”
Of course, these aren’t the first biting comments on music to come from Keith in recent memory. He also referred to The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band as “a mishmash of rubbish” in an interview with Esquire.
Whether Keith’s harshness is just him being honest or a brilliant way to get press with the September 18th release date of Crosseyed Heart looming, one thing is certain: Keith Richards doesn’t give a f*ck, and there’s nothing more rock and roll than that.
