ICYMI: Billy Corgan Announces Solo Album, Tour

Amidst swirling rumors of a Smashing Pumpkins reunion, Billy Corgan -- now to be known as William Patrick Corgan -- has announced plans to release his second solo album and tour this fall to support it.

Corgan will release Ogilala, the follow-up to 2005's TheFutureEmbrace, on October 13. The album was recorded in Malibu, Calif,, with producer Rick Rubin and features Corgan playing mostly acoustic guitar and piano. A first track, "Aeronaut," has been released in conjunction with the album.

In a statement Corgan says that, "For as long as I can remember the delineation point between songs I wrote for myself and songs I'd pen for whatever band was something I couldn't explain. And it remains so, for they all feel quite personal to me, no matter their time or era. The lone difference on songs for 'Ogilala' is that they seemed to want little in the way of adornment. Having written the songs for voice and guitar, I put myself in Rick's hands to take the music wherever he'd like."

Corgan kicks off a North American tour on October 14-15 in Brooklyn and will play multiple nights in his home town of Chicago, San Francisco and at the Hollywood Forever Ceremony in Los Angeles.

The first half of the shows will be Ogilala in its entirety, while the second will pull from the rest of his career.
