If you frequented the Asbury Park Rock scene between the late 1980's and early 1990's you may very well have encountered this week's featured band. Colossal Street Jam were a mainstay on the local scene, regularly rocking the legendary Stone Pony and the greatly missed Fast Lane with a melodic 70's Rock sound. Unfortunately, like The Fast Lane, Colossal Street Jam eventually vanished from the scene.
Fast forward to 2016. The band is back and it's as if they never left. They hit the ground running, playing a show with Matt O'Ree at the Stone Pony in June and jumping on the bill for the Rock Carnival at First Energy Park in October. The band put out a brand new album, "Living Free," in November and received an Asbury Park Music Award Nomination in December. You may have caught their performance at the Asbury Park Music Awards last month, or perhaps you saw them at the WRAT's High Def Den Giveaway at the Stone Pony. Needless to say, 2016 was a very eventful year for Colossal Street Jam.
Jersey Rock is happy to welcome Colossal Street Jam back. In honor of their triumphant return we'll play songs from their "Living Free" album all week. Tune to 95.9 The Rat on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 11:30 pm to hear tracks from the disc!
You can see Colossal Street Jam at the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park this Saturday night January 14 when they take the stage at The Light Of Day Foundation's Winterfest. The event will raise money for The Light Of Day Foundation, an organization that uses "the power of music to raise money and awareness in its continuing battle to defeat Parkinsons Disease and related illnesses such as PSP and ALS within our lifetime." Doors are at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. More info at wonderbarasburypark.com.
