A Salute To Dio And The Origin Of "Metal Horns"

The late, great Ronnie James Dio would've turned 74 today (July 10th), and besides all of the great music he's contributed in the history of rock and metal, Dio's other great contribution is the now iconic "metal horns" or "sign of the horns" hand gesture.

Whether you use it at a concert or in emoji form, throwing horns is as much a part of rock culture as denim vests, Jack Daniels and tattoos.  But how did Dio come up with the gesture?  Well, turns out his grandmother is actually responsible for that.  Check out the brief video below for the backstory!

Happy birthday, Ronnie!  We miss you!
